Cycling for cycles – from Belgium to South Africa

Stijn Van Parys arrived at the WoMena office in Kampala, after having cycled for 7 months starting in Belgium, crossing more than 14 countries along his way. Stijn is dedicating his journey to the work of WoMena to empower women and girls through menstrual health. It was therefore a very special moment for the WoMena Team, when we could finally welcome Stijn to Kampala.

During Stijn’s visit, he participated in different WoMena activities aiming to raise awareness on the importance of involving men in the discussion on menstrual health.

Among others, Stijn bravely took on the challenge to talk to different men at the local market about menstruation. The highlight of Stijn’s visit was the “Cycling for Cycles” campaign held at the M-Lisada orphanage in collaboration with Ultimate Cycling Uganda, who donated 15 bikes for the event!

About 70 kids participated in first a session on menstrual health and later, Stijn shared stories from the road and the kids rode the bikes.

Stijn will now continue the rest of his journey to Cape Town, South Africa. Good luck Stijn!
